The rain continues to pour down in sheets, creating almost zero visiblity in the darkness. Brief flashes of lightning are the only aid in the storm, keeping Icefall from becoming too lost. Thunder shakes the earth and tries to drown out the sound of the rain. In all of the commotion and chaos around her, she doesn't notice the wolves following her at a distance.

<A blue shaft of light strikes the ground in the forest, then Kaeden and Kssarh appear.>
Kssarh: "Remember, it's floor mopping for each day you are gone."
Kaeden: "Yes, Guildmaster Kssarh. Thank you for making a deal with me." <Kssarh chants for a moment, then opens up a red portal which he steps through. Kaeden notices that the rain is at a heavy downpour, and it is very hard to see. He looks towards the stars, and tries to figure out which one is the north star in the hindered visibility.>

Something big and heavy hits Icefall from behind, knocking her face first onto the hard, yet wet ground. The heavy creature begins to slash through the bag on her back. Food pouches fly out and are scattered on the ground. Icefall franticly begins to struggle under the creature's weight. A growl echoes near her ear as another creature approaches. It slowly walks towards her, taking no notice of the rainfall. A flash of lightning reveals the creature to her...

Wolfs

Icefall begins towards her sword, but the one infront of her snaps its jaws. She stops moving and tries to calm down. The one on her back resumes clawing through the pack until it is empty. It pauses for a moment, as if awaiting instructions.

They must be under the control of the dark mages. This isn't good.

<Kaeden finally determines which star the north star is in the limited visibility, then turns to face southeast. He runs as fast as he can in that direction, but tries not to slip on the rain slick grass.>
Kaeden: "I'd best hurry if I am to catch up with Icefall..."

The wolf in front of her comes up to her face. Icefall can smell its steamy hot breath. Unnatural sounds come from the creature, creating a choking form of human speech.

"Foolish mage, you and your kind do not deserve that which you have. We will take that which is rightfully ours soon enough."

The wolf on her back resumes its attack, tearing the last of the bag, and then clawing the back of her jacket and shirt. Claws rip at her back, causing her to muffle a cry. Icefall begins to try and gather strength from the stars to create a spell.

<Kaeden sighs.>
Kaeden: "I could barely see my hand in front of my face in this weather...." <Kaeden stops a moment to chant.>
Kaeden: "Far reaching sight of the moon... Gift me with your unclouded sight... Clear vision!" <Kaeden notices he can see at least a few yards in front of himself now. He resumes running.>

The wolf in front of her makes an eerie sounding laugh while the one on her back swipes at her neck, cutting deeply. Icefall inhales sharply, but doesn't lose focus. With her mind's eye, she begins to search for the only stable star left in the sky beyond the clouds. A glimmer catches her attention and she takes ahold of the northern star. She quickly starts to form the spell, her mind partitioned off from the pain being given to her.

Norther star, please lend me your strength.

<Kaeden keeps running, trying to think of pleasant thoughts.>
Kaeden: "Hopefully, Icefall has arrived safely at the camp..."

As the spell reaches its peak, Icefall unleashes it. Her body begins to faintly glow, her skin heating up. Rain sizzles as it hits her and the wolf on her back bursts into flames. Icefall rolls away from the burning animal and grabs the hind leg of the other wolf as it begis to back away. The smell of burning fur and flesh rise from where her hand holds the animal from running away. The wolf cries while trying to talk at the same time.

"Yes, yes. Use your powers while you still have them. They will not protect you forever though. You will be ours, star mage. All of you."

The wolf slumps to the ground, silent, like his brother. Icefall lets go of the animal as her skin begins to return to its natural color and temperature. The wounds on her back regain her attention now that the spell is over. Tired though, Icefall remains lying face first on the ground while the wolf's words haunt her.

(yes, i realize that i should have reread that last one before posting it. just pretend i grabbed the wolf's front leg, okay?)

The rain continues to pour down, although the thunder and lightning are long gone. Rain, dirt, and mud mix into Icefall's wounds while she tries to remain conscious
